The Gift of Giving

In my office, I am part of the activities committee and oversee some of the charity work that we do throughout the year.  This month brought our food drive to benefit a local food pantry.

As part of the food drive, to increase giving and encourage a little bit of friendly office competition, we came up with a peanut butter and jelly war.  Broken down alphabetically, the first half was Team Jelly and second half, Team Peanut Butter.

We obviously encouraged donations of other food items as well.

The drive ended today.  We collected over 10 boxes full of various food items (and each donation box probably weighed close to 100 pounds) plus additional cases of pb & j that people brought it.  YES, people were bringing in cases of the stuff!  Let's just say I work with some extremely competitive people...

All in all, we collected close to 500 jars of pb & j with Team PB coming in with the victory.

That group gets to wear jeans to work all of next week.  That is probably one of the most welcome prizes in our office....there is just something so much easier about a jeans day at work.  (no, I was team jelly...but I am only working 2 days next week, so it's not a big deal to me)

But honestly, the recipients of our generosity are the real winners.  It's nice to know at the end of the day that a small action on our part can make a huge impact on someone else.
