You're only flesh and bone, you'll never really know

One of the neighborhood kids has asked me several times, "Why do you make your kids wear helmets?" (When they ride their bikes). I always told him it was because I liked my kids.

Nevertheless, as few other kids 'round here or when we're camping have helmets, the little e's often offer some protest.

Their remonstrations are less protuberant after our escapades in Ionia last weekend as, shortly after Ari rode her bicycle into a tree (no harm!), a tree reached out and tripped J with a root sending him head over handlebars. Despite some nasty contusions, he was shielded from more egregious injury by the helmet supplied by the Clinton Township Police at kids and cops day.

Bicycle nominates self for most battle scarred.
The helmet took the worst of the crash damage

and the kid was back up and riding in no time.

J says: "Respect the helmet"
