Reel in-seine

Jared had been looking forward to our trip up north as it allowed the opportunity for some real fishing.

Jared rigging his gear.

Based upon local recommendation we lit out for Waugoshance Point -- down the gravel road where previously we played on the marooned boat launch. This time the little e's and I made it to the end of the road.

This is what forest looks like

This is the road.

On arrival the kids were appalled that there was no water in sight, meaning we had to hike in. Dang combine.

It was early so we were a bit bleary eyed but this is what we found

Off in the distance we think we spy water.

At this point the winds were howling into shore at 20 mph. Resolutely we shuffled onward to the mucky inlets of Sturgeon Bay. We had a heck of a time casting so hiked a bit upwind of one of the inlets and at least landed our hooks in the water. A couple of nibbles in a couple of hours and big and little e's alike decided the elements were against us that day.

At least we found some fine froggies.

That evening, after going on a firefly hunt, we asked the naturalist for inside information and were referred to O'Neal Lake.

The roads in to O'Neal Lake make the previous excursion seem urban.

Once the grass got taller than the hood of the truck we decided to retreat and seek another entry. (That's the road straight ahead. In case you couldn't tell.)

Much better

Not much room for error

Finally, the lake.

Perfect day; great lake with Pumpkinseeds and Bluegill. We didn't catch any but we saw them. We did hook something early on that put up a good fight.. And swam off with the hook, sinker and bobber. So if you fish O'Neal Lake and catch a decent size fish with such accouterments, that's ours.
