The mayor's secret project

Just across Gratiot, behind the row of old buildings lining the avenue, grows a project held secret:

Steve Neavling, Motor City Muckraker
Adjacent the Eastern Market and in the shadow of the incinerator, the last remains of the old Black Bottom neighborhood are being razed.  The the northeast end of the neighborhood, between St. Aubin and Chene, first riven by the Gratiot expansion, then disembowled with the Elmwood & Lafayette Park redevelopment/gentrification, slowly faded with time and fires to mostly prairie, until just a few homes remained, beside one abandoned school and one abandoned church.  There is apparently only only holdout left standing.

The long buried Bloody Run will be restored as part of a larger project to "green" and "blue" the city, and the area will expand on the Dequindre cut, connecting to Elmwood cemetary, then down to the riverfront.
