In the Dark

A tornado tore through our neighborhood this evening.

Ok....now that you've all taken a few deep breaths and come down from that tidbit-----we are fine.

I was visiting my grandma at the rehab center and the staff came through and made us all evacuate in to the hallway. (William was not thrilled with that). Since I couldn't see outside and the staff was mum on many details, I whipped out my cell phone and called Dan. He said, "yeah, there was some tornado action spotted over there....just hang tight and I'll let you know when it's clear and then you can head home." So, we sat in the hall and Will did his best to entertain the residents.

A short time later, Dan called back to let me know that he and Jared were heading to the basement but that he got some great shots of the funnel cloud that was going directly over our house!!!! Uh....hello?!?!?!!

We were given the ok to return to rooms, so I made sure Bacia was settled in and Ari, Will and I made our trek home....not really knowing what to expect.

And we were really shocked!

Downed trees and power lines were everywhere. I had to be creative in my drive through our sub.....finally making it home after circumventing large branches. Our neighbors now have a brand new, fully mangled trampoline in their front yard....courtesy of our neighbors at the opposite corner! We lost most of our garden, there are missing mailboxes, trees through garages and of course, NO POWER! Which leads to our biggest problem.....a sump pump that is backing up in our basement! Dan and Ari are currently transporting buckets of water to try and salvage the carpet as best possible.

The electric company has no idea how long the power will be out. This of course, comes at a time that we are (were?) in the home stretch of prepping for vacation.....Yes, we were suppose to pull out of town bright and early Saturday morning. But with the dissaray here - who know's what will become of summer vacation 2010.

*sigh*
