Rana sylvatica

While we sat by the campfire this past weekend, we heard repeated rustling of leaves from several directions. We made many attempts to illuminate the source with a flashlight and finally exposed the culprit: a juvenile Wood Frog. (The picture is an adult, btw.)
This frog has a great call; sounds like a raspy chuckle. (The DNR site says it sounds like a duck!) The frog allowed us to examine it up close and without flinching but as soon as the beam shifted, hopped off and we couldn't find another.
